Now open every Monday 5 PM and is welcoming new members. Email us to join the club!
The club is primarily designed for children ages 8-15 who are interested in learning and playing chess. Mature younger children and responsible older teens may also be welcome depending on experience and interest.
Players of all skill levels are welcome - from absolute beginners to advanced tournament players. Our goal is to create a fun and supportive environment where everyone can improve and enjoy the game.
Yes. Complete beginners are welcome. However, because the club includes students of many different ability levels and follows a lecture-and-games format, the amount of one-on-one time available for teaching the basic rules of chess may sometimes be limited. We encourage new players to learn the fundamentals and then continue building their skills at the club.
Each weekly meeting includes a short instructional lecture followed by chess games, practice, puzzles, and friendly competition. Students will learn chess strategy, tactics, openings, endgames, and interesting elements of chess history and theory.
Yes! The club regularly organizes internal tournaments and friendly competitions. Monthly results are tallied and club champions are announced at the end of each month.
The club was not created to turn a profit - we try to keep the club as affordable as possible. Our fee is 10 dollars per child participant per month during the summer summer session (usually 4 club meetings a month, from June 1 to August 31).Â
You can pay with a credit card (drop us an email and we will send you a payable credit card invoice) or pay with an interac transfer to DundasChessClub@mail.com, or cash or check in person.
Absolutely. Parents are encouraged to stay during club meetings if they wish. Adults are welcome to play chess with one another, assist with supervision, or simply enjoy the friendly atmosphere while the children participate. There is no charge for adults.
The club is designed to be welcoming, relaxed, educational, and fun. We want students to build confidence, make friends, improve their chess skills, and develop a lifelong appreciation for this fascinating classical game.
