Now open every Monday 5 PM and is welcoming new members. Email us to join the club!
West end Hamilton (Ontario, Canada) has long lacked accessible chess clubs and organized chess activities for children, despite the growing interest in this timeless and intellectually rewarding game. Our goal is to help remedy this by creating a welcoming community space where young players can learn, compete, and make friends through chess.
We are excited to announce the opening of the Dundas Chess Club, beginning operations on Monday, June 8, 2026, in the lovely and spacious atrium of Old Dundas City Hall (South Entrance). We warmly welcome children aged 8 to 15 who want to learn how to play chess, improve their skills, and have fun exploring this fascinating classical game. Whether your child is a complete beginner or already knows the basics, our club will provide a fun, friendly, and supportive environment where every young player can grow and enjoy the world of chess.
Our club meets weekly from 5:00 PM to 6:20 PM in the beautiful atrium of Dundas City Hall. Parking is free, you can park behind the Town Hall. The entrance tor the club is the South Entrance (look for the signs to Service Canada). The atrium is on the second floor - please take the srairs up and look for our signs. For families unfamiliar with the building, signs will be posted to help guide you to the club location.
Each meeting is designed to be both educational and fun. Sessions will begin with a short 10–20 minute lesson led by one of our coaches, covering topics such as the history of chess, fundamental strategies, and more advanced chess theory and techniques. Following the lesson, students will participate in supervised games, where coaches will help guide play, answer questions, and referee matches.
The club will also feature tracked games and standings throughout the season. At the end of each month, results will be tallied and our Club Champion will be announced.
Our fee is 10 dollars per child participant per month during the summer session (usually 4 club meetings a month, from June 8 to August 31). Parents are encouraged to stay and play as well, if they wish to do so (there is no charge for adults).
